I was at the barber shop and my barber puts on a Jay-Z track he has on his cell. In the middle of the track the music stops and Rick Ross says, "I just landed in Europe" Not a fan of the word that comes after that I thought I'd use that vocal and cut that word out. Then I would play with that one sample and put it underneath some house beats with heavy bass. A couple of days later I was mixing my 1 hour set for my weekly internet broadcast and I had such a nice play selection, I ran out of time.(that's why some of my mixes end abruptly) I stopped recording but continue to mix. Those mixes that follow the 1 hour set are always a lot of fun. I may post more of these "private sessions".

This "leftover" mix came about because this time I decided to hit the record button again. I had found a track called "Slightly Nervous" and decided to remix it with the idea of Rick Ross explaining to the woman talking on the track that he had just landed in Europe but actually he was out with another woman. The fact that the woman's voice is British made it the perfect compliment to the remix idea I had.

Would love to know what you think of this one…

Back beats are from two of my favorite's; Dee Jay Alicia/Mike Dunn's - I Like it Rough and Ladi6's Confusion of a Lady.

Not meant to be an all encompassing collection of his work but just a fan (me) paying tribute to one of his House Heroes.

Frankie Knuckles "godfather" of House Music. The House Music World, we lost a legend and pioneer in House Music. For those of us who grew up in Chicago and were teenagers/ young adults in the 80's … Frankie was a part of our lives, collective memories that make us who we are and we will forever be grateful for his contributions.

RIP Frankie.

March 30th 2014

I've felt less than creative lately, almost stuck, bored even. I decided to forget about searching for the latest "hot tracks" and just listen to some of my favorite tracks. I pulled out the Traktor S4 and of course I can't just listen to a song and then when it ends, click the next song in my iTunes folder. I selfishly want to/have to actively be a part of the listening exp. by blending the tracks together. Before I started podcasting, before I joined internet radio stations, I use to just mix music for myself using Audacity and later Virtual DJ. I created mixes to listen to in my car and on the treadmill since I haven't been a big fan of commercial radio or top 40 music for several years now.

This mix was just for me but I decided to share it anyway. This was a freestyle effort like I use to do when I was just podcasting. I would just start grabbing tracks as I mentally call them up or see them on my hard drive folder. Old tracks, new, tracks, fav tracks no synching… just seeing what works using the Cue buttons no planned playlist. For this effort, just beat matching. Using all 4 decks on the S4 in a controlled chaos then playing with the jog wheels to keep the beat. I had fun again. This process always gives me a certain freedom that I had in the beginning. I needed this - lol.

Enjoy

Notes:
Aired 12/7/13 on PhillyNites Radio www.phillynitesradio.com. This was part 3 of the 3 part Sagittarius Sessions. I had a lot of fun with this one and turned out to be my favorite of the 3 mixes. This one has more of a club feel with the others being more deep house. Used samples liberally from songs not mentioned in the playlist and the A2 909 Kick Clap here and there. To me mixing is like jazz improv. If I remixed this same group of songs next week it may come out different. The research and prep is the longest part of the process. Deciding to add a sample here and there or a new track at the last minute makes it fun to create these tracks. Also I kept 3-4 decks working at the same time to add what I call those midas reTouches. : )

Acknowledgments:
I want to thank my musical director, CMO (Chief Musical Officer), and owner of PhillyNites Sharon Benatti. Thank you Sharon for giving us a playground where we can play! Also want to thank Chris Fx for hooking me up on a couple of tracks. He always has an ear for HOT tracks and his contribution certainly made this set what it is! take it with you

Iphone_trans Listening to podcasts on your mobile devices is extremely convenient -- and it's what makes the podcasting medium so powerful.

You can take your favorite shows and mixes with you anywhere, but to do so requires some quick and simple steps.

Let's walk you through that process together.
step 1:

Click the "Subscribe With iTunes" link in the page's sidebar:

This will require that you have the iTunes software on your computer.

(You can download iTunes here.)
step 2:
Itunes_ss

Now that you've subscribed to the podcast on iTunes, the feed will display in your "Podcasts" section on the left navigation bar.

Click there and you'll see the show displayed in the iTunes browser.

You can "get all" to download all available episodes or just individual episodes.
step 3:

Plug your mobile device (iPhone, iPad, iPod) into your computer with the Dock Connector cable, and click the device in iTunes's left navigation bar.

Itunes_ss2

Once you have your device highlighted, click "Podcasts" in the top navigation bar and sync the podcasts you want on your device. Click "apply" and the episodes you have downloaded on your iTunes software will sync with your device.
that's it!
